Local History Societies & Associated Community Groups

In Hampshire alone there are many community-based archive-related groups concerned with local history and heritage. Each of them has a similar aim – to investigate and tell the story of their locality.

They each face similar challenges, but often have different means of meeting them. One of the aims of this site is therefore to help them to share experience and knowledge.

This section will be developed to give the names and websites or other contacts of more than 100 groups in Hampshire.

In the near future it is planned to post descriptions of their holdings, together with photos and some ‘history nuggets’ from their locality.

If you belong to such a group and have not already supplied information for the site, please download the pro forma or contact website.coordinator@hampshirearchivestrust.co.uk

Some of the groups featured here can also be found on the websites of the Community & Heritage Group of the Archives & Records Association and the British Association for Local History.

This is a platform for those who run such groups to promote their events, recruit new members and sell their publications and other products, as well as making fruitful links with other groups.

Elsewhere on the site are details for making applications to the Hampshire Archives Trust for grants up to £10,000. Further information is available from grants@hampshirearchivestrust.co.uk
