The Hampshire Archives Trust is a membership organisation, and as well as the board of trustees has a wide membership from across Hampshire of people keen to help preserve historic archives and make them available to the general public.

We want to continue to grow our membership as that way we can continue our work and increase our advocacy about the importance of archives.

Our membership fees contribute to our grants programme which supports a diverse range of projects across Hampshire from the conservation of documents of national importance belonging to Winchester Cathedral to providing support for small museums and community groups who are collecting, conserving and sharing archives of local interest.

Recent projects have included an exhibition about the Olympics, helping purchase packaging materials for historic photographs, the publication of a Hampshire Record Series volume and a workshop about the First World War. You can find out more about these and other projects here. Applications for grants is available here.

As a member of the Archives Trust you will be kept in touch with what is going on in Hampshire’s archival heritage via our twice yearly newsletter. It covers news from Hampshire Record Office and the two other Record Offices in Southampton and Portsmouth. It is packed with articles from across the county and from the many diverse archives that are held by museums, schools, stately homes.

In addition there will be electronic news updates sent regularly to keep you abreast of events, exhibitions and projects.

There is also an important social element to being a Trust member, with the Annual General Meeting which sets out strategic plans for the coming year and where the trustee board will update the general membership on their activities on behalf of the trust.

The AGM is always held in a building of historic interest, with links to fascinating archives and usually includes a tour as well as a presentation by a guest speaker.

Throughout the year our busy events committee are organising days out to intriguing venues, many not open to the general public. Recent visits have included to Cranbury Park, exhibitions relating to Jane Austen’s bi-centenary and a trip to an historic brickworks!

If you want to get further involved you can join the event sub-committee or become a volunteer supporting our project work, or be part of our fund-raising team or marketing committee. For further information here.

To join today just complete the online application here and we look forward to welcoming you to our next Hampshire Archives Trust events.
