This talk has been organised by HAT as part of series of events held throughout the UK to celebrate local and community history month, and will be on an online talk on zoom The talk is titled ‘Southampton’s people and their goods 1250-1500’ and is given by Professor Chris Woolgar on 11 May at 7pm

Chris is currently working on a wider study of people’s goods, which has led him to track down as many wills as he could find for medieval Southampton. He has found some 95-100 wills in 14 different archives. One of the great social changes of the late Middle Ages is quite simply that people have so much more ‘stuff’ – and Chris is interested in particular in people’s attitudes to their goods.
Chris has recently retired as Professor of History and Archival Studies at the University of Southampton. He researches the history of the everyday, particularly in the medieval period, and his publications include books on the great household, food and sensory perception, and editions of household accounts and of wills and probate records. He is a Fellow of the British Academy and editor of the Journal of Medieval History
You will need this link to access the talk, and please book with Sue Woolgar – secretary@hampshirearchivestrust.co.uk. Please note there is a limit of 100 on numbers
