Hampshire Archives Trust – Talk About Hampshire Quakers

A HAT online talk on 24 November at 7pm

A people not fit to breathe in English Aire’ Hampshire Quakers before the Toleration Act Quaker beliefs reached Hampshire in about 1655, attracting supporters in many parts of the county. Their commitment and unwillingness to compromise lay them open to persecution and led to the creation of a fine archive. The talk will look at their community life as reflected in that archive, with particular emphasis on the community at and around Alton.

The speaker Rosemary Dunhill was County Archivist from 1982 to 2001 and Secretary to Hampshire Archives Trust from its creation in 1986 to her retirement. Publications include Music and Theatre in Handel’s World: the family papers of James Harris of Salisbury 1735-1780 (with Donald Burrows) 2002; and Northamptonshire National Schools 1812-1854, 2017.

This event is open to all so forward this email to friends who may be interested.  Please book to attend this zoom on line talk by emailing secretary@hampshirearchivestrust.co.uk
